Chinese Astrology Compatibility

Autor: henryfong

There is a belief amongst the Chinese community that those who are born four years apart are more compatible than those who are born six year apart. Do you know why?

In the 12 Animals Zodiac system of astrology, our character is influenced by our year of birth. For example those born in the year of the rat are intelligence but suspicious while those born in the year of the horse are generous and loves freedom. And those who are born in the year of the dog are as you may already guess, loyal. Based on our year of birth we are imbued with certain characteristics that make us more of less compatible with each other.

According to the ancient Chinese, the Monkey, Rat and Dragon form a compatible set. They have characteristics that make them more compatible with each other. The other compatible sets are the Snake, Rooster and Ox, the Pig, Rabbit and Goat and the Tiger, Horse and Dog. If you check the year of birth you will notice that they are four years apart. For example those born in 1964 are Rats, 1968 are Dragons and 1972 are Monkeys!

In addition to the above combinations, the other compatible combinations are between the Rat and Ox, Pig and Tiger, Dog and Rabbit, Rooster and Dragon, Monkey and Snake and between the Goat and Horse.

The Rat on the other hand is supposedly less compatible than the Horse. They form an incompatible set. The other incompatible sets are between Ox and Goat, Tiger and Monkey, Rabbit and Rooster, Dragon and Dog and between the Snake and Pig. If you check the year of birth you will notice that they are six year apart!

The Chinese astrology compatibility tools that you find on the Internet are largely based on the abovementioned principles of combination and clash. Most will also include more combinations and clashes that I have not mentioned above but I hope you are getting the idea.

What if you and your spouse form an incompatible set? Do not panic. Did you notice that I used the word 'supposedly' many times? In practice our character is also heavily influenced by the month, day and hour of birth which is not taken into consideration in the above examples. Therefore it is entirely possible for a Rat person to display characteristics of other animals!

In my practice, I have seen many supposedly incompatible sets of husbands and wives. They are still together after many years of marriage and some of them quite happily! Perhaps love plays a part too!

Our God Is Agape Love

Autor: davidbeing

Relationships are everything...simply because they are all that exist. Nothing has meaning until you decide how it relates to you or how you relate to it. It is the process of making these associations that will determine the outcome of our experiences in life.

We are creatures of love that have thrust ourselves into what appears to be a world of hate. We once knew there was only one form of love, but now the influence of fear and separation has provided us with the perception that love can exist on several levels. The current levels of love are:

EROS LOVE - known as 'erotic love', is based on strong romantic feelings towards another.

PHILOS LOVE - a love based on friendship between two people who share a mutual, 'give-and take' relationship.

AGAPE LOVE - unconditional love that is always giving and impossible to take or be a taker. It devotes total commitment to seek your highest best no matter how anyone may respond. This form of love is totally selfless and does not change whether the love given is returned or not. This is the original and only true form of love.

The description of 'Agape Love' that is accepted by most beliefs as the love that God provides, is identical to how his love is described throughout "A Course in Miracles", which is founded upon the primary principle that God's love for us has never allowed him to even begin to see us differently, regardless of what we may have done or believe we have done. The Course is repeatedly clear how God never takes and only gives, which is how creation works since God creates by extending himself...as he also extended himself into what has come to be known as us, the Son of God.

God never takes...and since we are created in his likeness...with his same method of thinking and being, our true selves (not these ego shrouded human shells) also know this is true. We inherently know that it is never better to take or require that somebody give. Giving is natural and never includes loss of any kind. True giving is like creation in that you do not lose what you give, but you extend that thing and it grows larger as you give it, or share it...like sharing a story or experience.

True giving is rarely experienced on a physical level since we perceive the thing as missing once it is given. On a physical level, you believe you have less after you give or that you have more when you receive. As you can see, this physical world has nothing to do with agape love since this world is based upon taking and having more or upon losing and having less. Agape love is based upon giving through sharing and knowing you already have everything and have nothing to lose. Agape love acknowledges that we are all connected and can only move that thing amongst ourselves, but never outside, so we never lose it. Everything is simply shared.

In a spiritual reality, only thoughts of agape love exist. Nothing else can exist there since everything is in harmony. There is no thought of less or loss or sacrifice since all needs are met before they even exist. This is where the mind of our God exists and it is from here where he teaches us and speaks to us. Every thought or idea that has truly originated from the mind of God, originated from his center of Agape Love.

Since we are no longer centered in agape love, the issue we have while forming relationships is that we tend to severely limit the capacity of the relationship to what we can get from the other or what we think the other wants to take from us. This form of relationship stems from "philos" love which indicates you share a like mindedness (eg. if you agree with me, I will love you). A philos love relationship is a mutual, "give-and take" relationship which ends the moment one side either does not get what they want or is asked for something they do not wish to give.

Our confusion on the purpose of love relationships is often then applied to how we think God relates to us, where we imagine that God only loves us when we please him, or that God will only walk with us if we acknowledge him, or that God will only extend his hand and carry us back to him in heaven if we agree with what we think he demands from us. In doing this, we have created a philos love relationship with God which is totally at odds with his agape love since agape love only gives and never takes and is void of any necessary condition. Agape love asks for nothing and gives everything....simply because we are the children of agape love.

Having built walls between ourselves and our creator, we have distanced ourselves from sensing God's love and the world we see around us is a reflection of living without real love. This environment breeds calamity and destruction since that is the result of life based upon fear instead of love. If accepting perfect love can cast out fear, then likewise, accepting fear removes our ability to sense perfect love.

Fortunately, our creator views any problem or tragic moment as an opportunity to reach into our hearts and provide reason for change. No matter what loss appears to have occurred, he is not angry or upset at who we think is at fault because he knows nothing has been lost. Since material things have no eternal value, they do not matter at all to him. In addition, any person you believe has died, is still safe in spirit form, and since God exists spiritually, he does not sense the loss of this being and therefore has no reason to be upset at anyone. His only thought is to help us see that life can be happier... life can be fuller... it is better to be kind... it is better to be loving, and then our time down here will become a focus on preparing ourselves to return to our creator. Regardless of what happens here, He has not and never will lose one of us because we are created eternal spirits, just like him. Jesus proved when he rose again that you can kill the body, but the spirit remains, untouched and unaffected by anything that happens while here in this physical world.

Agape love is seeing the answer and sharing that with whoever is seeing or experiencing the problem.

Agape love is never judgmental and is eternally patient with any thing that must be learned.

Agape love is totally without demands or requirements.

Agape love is total truth in that it does not change, no matter what appears to change around it.

Agape love knows not of time since time does not exist in heaven.

Agape love is unconditional forgiveness for any event because agape love transcends the concept of needing forgiveness in that it knows we are simply misguided and therefore our actions are not held against us in the first place.

Like frightened children running through a dark forest, we act irrationally and do things out of fear and panic. Agape love knows this and seeks only to help us resolve our fears so that we can see clearly once again and return to full communication with our creator.

Nothing physical matters. Nothing can be lost. Nothing can be taken. Nothing needs to be given. In our true form, we know this, but right now we can only recite the words...but we don't really believe them...and that's why we are here. We are in a place where we believe we have been removed from agape love and have written books about a god who does not behave as though he is agape love, but this is not so. The closest our reality can be described here is to think of this as a collective dream on a universal scale. We, the Son of God, attempted to perform something separate from our creator and this is not possible, so instead, this action created a place... a dream, where Gods agape love does not seem to exist...and this is a horrific thought and thus our lives have been horrific.

God has sent the Holy Spirit to help awaken us and to help us see that this world is upside down and totally backwards in thinking. This world teaches taking. God teaches giving. This world teaches sacrifice and guilt. God teaches you have nothing to lose so there is nothing to sacrifice and therefore nothing to make others feel guilty about. This world teaches that fear is necessary to survive, but God teaches that love casts out fear and that we will only truly live when we cast out our fear and embrace agape love once again.

Every lesson, teaching or guideline that ever truly came from God, can only originate from the unchangeable spirit of his unconditional love and endless patience, and his truths, or love, can speak of nothing else. We do know the truth when we hear it because God created us in his image, therefore, we too are agape love. Once we learn to really embrace this, we will remember who we really are and then we'll wake up to see our creator right where he always has been....everywhere...above us, beside us, below us, within us. Everywhere.

Feng Shui Money Frog

Autor: buy-fengshui

The Money Frog, also known as the three legged toad or “Chan Chu” in Chinese is probably the most auspicious symbol of money-making. This mythical creature is said to appear every full moon near homes that will receive good news of increased wealth or monetary gain. The Money Frog is used for attracting wealth and abundance and can often be seen near cash registers, receptions, managers' desk and offices in Oriental countries.

Often portrayed sitting on a bed of treasure made up of gold ingots, coins and jewels and bearing a coin in its mouth, the Money Frog is a wonderful symbol for wealth and career luck and for the patriarch of the family. The Money Frog is also always seen biting on two strings of coins and with 7 dots on its back, depicting the Ursa Major (Great North Pole 7 Stars). A must for those who wish to multiply their wealth!

Here is how you can use the Money Frogs to Feng Shui your way to a better life.

1. Place this wonderful creature it in the wealth sector (South East) of your living room or office to magnify your windfall luck and enhance the income of the residents.

2. Place two Money Frogs: One inside your front door facing inwards symbolizes money coming in to your home of business and the other facing outward to collect the money.

3. For those involved in jobs where there is the opportunity to earn commission or side income, display a money frog next to your desk or diagonally opposite the front door to your home.

4. The best number of Money Frogs to have in your living room or garden is nine because it represents bringing in money from all directions of the compass. Place them randomly and discreetly under your table, behind the sofa, below the coffee table etc. Ensure that each Money Frog faces a different direction of the compass in the living room and one near your front door hopping inward to bring in lots of wealth and money. If nine is not possible, three or six are good numbers too.

Note: NEVER keep money frogs in the bedroom, toilets or kitchen.

Can Spirituality Be An Escape?

Autor: Guest

I had a friend who learned Transcendental Meditation and practiced almost every day. She felt happier, more relaxed, even blissful as long as she meditated. If she missed a few days, she found that she didn't feel much different than before she began to meditate. Although she felt better when she meditated, it wasn't solving her underlying problems.

I've known many people who've used spirituality and meditation as a way of avoiding dealing with their issues. Since they feel good when they're pursuing a spiritual path, guru, or new technique, they think that will make all the uncomfortable stuff dissolve and go away. Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way. Spirituality is no more a magic bullet than anything else.

According to Lawrence LeShan, a psychotherapist, meditation teacher and author of "How To Meditate," meditation can help strengthen the structure of our personality, making us better able to deal with our challenges. And it may give us more insight into our issues, but meditation doesn't do away with them. It may reduce overall anxiety, make us feel safe, therefore better able to face ourselves, but we still need to do the internal work needed to bring about change.

Anything that allows us to feel bliss and euphoria, whether it's drugs, lust, romatic love, alcohol, achievement, spirituality or meditation, can become addicting. We become enthralled to the feeling and want to repeat it as often as possible. It makes the bad feelings fade away. Spirituality is a healthier escape than any of the others, but it still can be an escape. We need to ask ourselves, "What am I trying to escape from or avoid?"

There needs to be a balance and a grounding at the same time. Getting carried away with bliss can mean not attending to day to day affairs, such as paying the bills, eating right, and having healthy relationships. I knew a woman like this. She was so wrapped up in her pursuit of peace that when she received a chunk of money in a settlement, she didn't want to be bothered by trying to invest it. Instead, she gave the money to a friend to invest it for her. Unfortunately, the friend put it in a high risk investment, which failed, and she lost all of her money. The euphoria from spirituality and meditation doesn't erase our personal responsiblities.

We seek to recognize our wholeness through spirituality and meditation. Instead of feeling like we have a "hole in our soul," spirituality helps us to understand that we are truly whole and complete as we are. It allows us to be more fully present in our world and expand our awareness of who we are. But as long as it's being used to avoid our feelings and deep issues, we can't move forward. We're either resisting discomfort or moving toward wholeness. We can't do both.

We have to be able to balance our spiritual practices with our everyday and emotional lives. Spirituality and meditation gives us a sense of connection that we can then take into the rest of our experience. When we are able to acknowledge our issues, work through them, and accept all of ourselves, we're honoring our spiritual essence.

Music Download Industry Debate

Autor: 6starreviews

The music download industry keeps evolving, as more players enter the game and alliances are formed within a blink of an eye. We’re all aware of AT&T partnering with giant Apple Inc. to promote the iPhone, which of course uses iTunes for its ringtone capabilities. As more mobile phones encompass multimedia functions, the music and telecommunications industries are realizing their unfolding opportunities to meld together.

AT&T and Napster, one of the original music download services, are joining together and providing direct download capabilities, according to CNNMoney. In an effort to avoid mobile-to- PC connections to transfer music files, direct downloads are growing in popularity. More mobile phone owners are using their cell phones as MP3 players, not to mention the added benefit of using downloads as ringtones.

Similarly, in Australia, Nokia is stepping up to the plate in music downloads, providing free Wi-Fi zones for Nokia Nseries customers. They plan to launch a music download service of their own sometime this year, and with their free Wi-Fi campaign, more and more Australian-based Nokia users will be more apt to try it out come launch time.

Telecommunications companies and mobile phone service providers aren’t the only ones switching up the music download industry. 6StarReviews.com reports that Amazon’s newest service, AmazonMP3, is offering lower prices on individual songs and albums than some of their competitors, such as iTunes.

Their 2-million some music collection stands out in that its music files are DRM-free and iTunes and Windows Multimedia Player-compatible. Though competition amongst music download providers is inevitable, anyone with a mobile phone or MP3 player will continue to be exposed to countless options.

Contemplation as a Methodology for Spiritual Connection

Autor: trbrady

In this article, I am going to explore the methodology of contemplation as a means to explore personalize truth and spiritual bonding. As with any technique, it is important to remember that contemplation is a tool. Thus, undertaking contemplation will not automatically translate into a free ticket into Heaven or automatically transport you to Nirvana. Nor will reading this article cause you to suddenly realize your true potential with ultimate understanding of the universe. Contemplation is merely one method used by some individuals to gain insight into themselves, their beliefs, and into the workings of the universe. If this methodology suits your particular purposes, then use it. If not, modify the methodology or find another more suitable alternative.

What is Contemplation?

Contemplation is a process in which a person focuses his or her full attention on a single reading, scripture, or hymn. This can be accomplished by reading a piece of text and then thinking about the deeper meaning of that text, by saying the piece aloud and concentrating on the purpose of the words, or by reciting a reading from memory over and over again to understand the religious significance of the words. In each case, an individual thinks about the deeper meaning of the piece, the purpose of the work, or how that reading gives glory to the universe. To facilitate concentration, contemplation is often undertaken while in a comfortable immovable position such as sitting. It is of note, that though traditionally contemplation was undertaken with bible scripture in mind, that any piece of scared text, prose, or poetry can be used to uncover personal spiritual connections.

How Does Contemplation Differ from Meditation? How Does It Differ from Praying?

Unlike contemplation, meditation is undertaken to focus the mind away from thinking in order to still the conscious mind. This is done in a number of ways and using a variety of methods such as repelling thoughts, counting breaths, flame watching, walking therapy, and repeating mantras. Other articles in the future will likely be dedicated to further explanation of such methodologies.

Praying, like contemplation, is a conscious effort. However, unlike the logical analysis process of contemplation, praying is more of an internal conversation with a purpose, usually asking for guidance or favours from a particular deity.

What is the Ultimate Purpose of Contemplation?

Contemplation can be used in a number of different ways. This methodology can be used to uncover hidden or symbolic meaning or create interpretations of sacred texts. Contemplation can also be used to examine concepts, feelings, and underlying beliefs held by the writer of a particular work. These concepts can then be compared to those of the individual for personal validity or used to stretch the individual’s mind to include the potential of alternative viewpoints. Moreover, these aspects can be examined in an analytical way and used to heal negative recollections or emotions brought up by a certain text. In this way, the potential usages of contemplation are as varied as the individuals who undertake this methodology.
Steps for Contemplation:
1. Select your favourite scripture, poem, inspirational story, or affirmation.
2. Sitting in a quiet comfortable position, read over your text. If you wish you may say the text aloud or repeat the text over and over in your mind.
3. Close your eyes and think about the meaning of the text. Is there some deep or hidden meaning in this piece? Do you feel any sort of connection to this work? What does this text tell you about the way the universe works, about appropriate conduct, and about acceptable life purposes?
4. Ask yourself how the meaning and purpose of this text fits into your view of the world. How do these deeper meanings make you feel? Do they reinforce or conflict with your religious beliefs? Do they tell you anything about yourself?
5. Incorporate this new knowledge into a better understanding of yourself, your life purpose, and your place in the universe.

The City of Live Music

Autor: Guest

Anyone who lives in Austin knows why the city council adopted the slogan “live music capital of the world” in 1991. For those just visiting, the city offers many opportunities to find out.
The famed music scene of Austin began in the 60s and 70s at the Vulcan Gas Company. Musicians played country music here to crowds of loud and enthusiastic fans. Willie Nelson moved to Austin in 1965 and kick started his career in front of these audiences. He went on to become one of the most successful country music artists of all time. Not long after, the Vulcan Gas Company became known as the Armadillo World Headquarters, or just The Armadillo, and Austin’s music really took off.

As the music scene grew more popular, Austin gained a reputation for welcoming struggling artists. Bands and singers knew they would find receptive audiences at numerous informal establishments and the type of music played expanded to include jazz, blues, rock and roll, and everything in between.

The music scene in Austin has fostered the career of many now famous musicians. Perhaps the most legendary, Stevie Ray Vaughan is one of the most influential blues guitarists in the world. He first played at Antone’s, the club founded by his mentor and record producer, Clifford Antone.

Television and annual festivals have helped Austin develop into the live music capital. The show Austin City Limits first aired on PBS in 1975. The live music experience showcased the variety of artists heard in Austin and helped significantly to grow the city’s music reputation. Almost every kind of music imaginable can be heard at the three day Austin City Limits Music Festival held every September. Since its inception in 2002, it has become one of the premier music festivals in the country.

The Sixth Street area of downtown Austin houses the largest collection of live music venues and is the location of the South by Southwest Festival. SXSW, as it is known, is a music and film festival that has generated more revenue than even the Texas Longhorn’s home games.

Certainly, the times of year that coincide with the music festivals are the most exciting for fans of live music. At any other time of year, tourists may be disappointed with the atmosphere of the famed Sixth Street area. Several of the original, small music venues have closed and in their place are more profitable bars and clubs.

While some may believe the eclectic, small feel of Austin’s music scene is waning, others still revel in the live entertainment.

Lawyer Advertising That Means Nothing

by: Gary E Rosenberg

1. We get quick settlements.

Now any lawyer might make a telephone call to try to negotiate a settlement. And settlements are usually good things: an agreement between the opposing parties to the mutual benefit of each.

But it is a mistake to hire a law firm that advertises that its goal is to settle cases. You see, there are few secrets in this business. Many lawyers know each other or each other's firms or each other's reputations. And this "quick settlement" advertisement is out there just to attract new clients. It says nothing good about the quality of that law firm's services. In reality, a firm known for settling cases is a firm that won't fight.

I would rather hire the lawyer who has a reputation for being tough on defendants and their insurance carriers - who strikes fear in their hearts - than hire a lawyer who is known as a quick or easy settler. Because the insurance companies know who these lawyers and law firms are. You can not get top dollar for your case with the "quick settlers" because the insurance carriers know these law firms want the quick settlement and won't go to court. Such firms need to settle, to live up to their advertising. Is that who you really want to handle your accident case? Remember, you don't get a second chance to get top dollar.

2. [Fill in the number] years combined experience.

Now I have 23 years of experience practicing law. Would that really be equal to four attorneys with five years experience and one with three years experience? No.

3. Free consultation.

All personal injury attorneys give one.

4. No fee unless successful.

Most personal injury attorneys utilize this type of fee called a "contingent" or "contingency" fee and based on a percentage of the money recovered, typically, one-third. YOU NEED TO KNOW that you, the client, remains responsible for case expenses and disbursements, such as: court filing fees, fees for medical and hospital records, expenses of investigation, court reporter fees, and the like. Your lawyer is supposed to tell you that the costs and disbursements remain you, the client's, responsibility.

Advancing case expenses is like an interest-free loan that the attorney makes on every accident case. This is a loan that the client must repay when his or her case settles. This is not the equivalent of a lawyer loaning money directly to the client, which is not permitted. Now advancing case expenses is not a terrible problem because attorneys generally won't advance a lot of money on questionable cases that they feel might not win. But that accident attorneys advance case expenses that are repayable by the client is something you should know.

5. Home/hospital visits available: we come to you.

Most personal injury attorneys do this. And it's not a big deal, as long as you've called that attorney and asked for the visit.

6. Telephone #'s that spell things, like 1-800-HurtInAnAccident.

A very strong, memorable marketing tool. Usually used by services that refer cases to member law firms. So the question becomes: who will be your attorney? Does the referral service tell you? Does it even know whom it is sending your telephone call to? And this again raises all of the previously discussed questions about your attorney's qualifications and ability.

7. Call 24 hours/7 days a week.

What, you hired an attorney that doesn't sleep?

8. Slogans like: We fight hard for you; we care for you; we kick insurance company butt; we provide aggressive representation. (This is a partial list.)

This is meaningless drivel.

If you think about it carefully, the things that most attorneys advertise, such as the numbered items above, are the same as every other attorney advertises. Worse yet, they do not address the important questions, such as the ten items listed above. So read what I've written carefully, then read it again. Otherwise, you may not even know the questions to ask, let alone what the answers should be.

Guitar Tuning And How To Tune A Guitar

Autor: gellnsh

There are many different ways to approach guitar tuning. We'll touch on a couple of the more effective methods on how to tune a guitar. Not necessarily the most popular as some methods, though extensively used, are considered 'bad habits' rather than genuine, effective guitar tuning alternatives.

The guitar standard tuning is as follows:

STRING - 6th String (bottom, bass, low) NOTE - E
5th String - A
4th String - D
3rd String - G
2nd String - B
1st String (top, treble, high) - E

Tips For Any Guitar Tuning Method

First, lets cover a few things that every player should know when taking the proper approach to guitar tuning and how to learn to tune guitar.

Learn to attach the strings to the machine heads properly. Never try to tune down to a note. Stretch the strings and tune up to the note. Tuning heads have a certain amount of 'play' in them so make a couple of deep bends and then fine tune the string. Before tuning a suspect string, check it against both adjacent strings to determine which string is actually out of tune. The string you suspect may not even be the culprit. When tuning a guitar with a vibrato arm, tune the string, give the arm a good shake, stretch the string, give the arm another shake and fine tune.

Veterans of guitar playing will already know these things so if you're a beginner and just learning to play the guitar, you're already ahead of the game if you implement these practices into your routine. For a great tool visit http://www.guitarmusician.com/guitar-tuner.htm

Here's A Quick Method For Guitar Tuning

Tune the treble (high) E string to an A440 tuning fork by holding your finger on the 5th fret, then tune the open B string to the open treble E string – listening to the interval of a fourth. It's easy to hear the fourth in that register.

Play the A note fretted at the 2nd fret of the G string, and compare it to the open treble E string – you're listening for a perfect fifth interval.

Fret the 2nd fret E note on the D string and compare it to the treble E string open. Double check this by fretting the E note on the 14th fret of the D string.

Now tune the 7th fret harmonic on the A string (an E note) to the open treble E string.

Finally, tune the 5th fret harmonic on the bass E string to the open treble E string.

This is a simple guitar tuning method that works well.

Use Of Tasers Vs Lethal Force In Law Enforcement

by: James D. Anderson

Use Of Tasers Vs Lethal Force In Law Enforcement

Crime has come a long way to make its root firmer in the society and has forced law enforcement agencies to take up arms against criminals. Some of the countries arm their law enforcement officials with the latest and deadly weapons, which fall in the category of lethal force. The use of tactical weapons has become necessary because crime is not just about snatching bags anymore. Crime has also become techno-savvy and criminals have started to use some of the best weapons in the market. If we look at the top 10 countries with high rate of crime then the numbers are astoundingly high.

1. Iceland 14,726.95
2. Sweden 13,455.08
3. New Zealand 12,586.64
4. Grenada 10,177.89
5. Norway 10,086.72
6. England & Wales 9,823.38
7. Denmark 9,460.38
8. Finland 8,697.37
9. Scotland 8,428.97
10. Canada 4,123.97

The above are per 100,000 inhabitants

In the United States itself, the Crime Index Rates have increased from 1,887.2 in the 60’s to more than double, which are 5,897.8 by 1991 and this is per 100,000 inhabitants. In 1991, the crime rate in the US was 313% more than the rate in 1960. Crime rate in other countries of the world have also increased considerably in the last couple of decades.

For more than a few decades, law enforcement agencies in the US and in other countries across the world have been using automated weapons to fight criminals and this has resulted in loss of life on either sides. An NIJ report has confirmed that the US federal government spends approximately $75 billion on the different law enforcement agencies as well as the judicial system. Yet not all the money infused into the system has helped in protecting innocent citizens from becoming the victim. In fact, according to a report, if the overall productivity of the law enforcement agencies could be increased by 1% then it would make a huge positive impact on the crime rate in the US and will even cut down the economic loss by $700,000,000.

The question is how can the enforcement agencies fight crime effectively and without killing the criminal? The answer lies with alternative weapons, which resourceful, effective, inexpensive, and not life are threatening.

The Emergence of Taser

One of the recent problems faced by several law agencies is that of transporting hardened convicts from one prison location to another. There are times when convicts have tried to escape and in the confusion officers had to resort to using their weapons and sometimes inappropriate tactics and use of force, which cause more harm than good and even death in some cases.

This is where a Taser comes in. A Taser looks like a gun but it is an entirely different concept. It is basically a type of electroshock weapon, which can stun a subject from quite a distance. The models being used currently by law enforcement agencies are the M26 and X26. Some of the other models include the Taser C2 and the Taser M18.

The primary reason behind introducing Taser is the fact that they are non-lethal weapons that can be used by law enforcement agencies for subduing potentially dangerous and fleeing subjects like convicts. Taser can considerably reduce the usage of life threatening weapons like the service guns.

The Taser was developed initially by Jack Cover, who was a NASA researcher, in 1969. The modern day Taser can fire two small electrodes, which are connected with a main unit through two conductive wires. They are propelled into the air or towards the subject with the help of small but compressed nitrogen charges. Each of the air cartridges is equipped with two electrodes as well as enough compressed nitrogen to fire a single shot. The air cartridge has to be replaced after use.

Cartridges for the Taser are available depending on the range that you expect to achieve. The maximum range of a Taser is 35 feet or 10.6 meters, a distance at which you can fire it and catch a fleeing convict or criminal. The cartridges available for civilian use have a maximum range of 15 feet or 4.5 meters.

Once fired from the Taser, the pointed electrodes will pierce through the clothing and remain in place because of they are barbed. The latest models of the Taser including the C2 are called 'pulse' models and they can pierce through a Level III body armor vest. The Taser gives an electric shock that stuns the subject for a few minutes during which the law enforcement officers can overpower the subject and take him/her into custody.

The Taser C2

The Taser C2 is perfect for independent men and women who require an effective but not life threatening protection device. As of today almost 250,000 law enforcement officials across 40 countries are using different Taser devices including the C2. The Taser C2 is a great weapon for self-defense and is categorized under Electronic Control Devices (ECDs). It can propel wires that will stun the subject and affect the motor and sensory functions of the central nervous system. The Taser C2 is available with a replaceable cartridge that contains compressed nitrogen and two small electrodes and can fire a shot to a maximum range of 15 feet

The range of 15 feet gives the Taser a definite advantage because you can use it the moment you sense danger. You can even use it if someone snatches your bag at the supermarket and tries to flee. This flexibility in firing from a distance makes the Taser C2 an absolute weapon to have. The Taser C2 can protect you or your family from a potentially threatening situation and keep everyone safe.

The Taser C2 technology has been proven to be highly effective in laboratory exercises and in real life situation. It is considered as one of the best weapons for self-defense from a safe distance. Today there are in excess of 500,000 users of the Taser worldwide. The Taser C2 technology has also been supported by several medical reports and medical organizations that have vouched for the general safety that comes with this stun gun. There are no long-term injuries and the subject can recover completely in a matter of minutes.

What gives the Taser C2 the advantage over conventional weapons is that the discharge of electricity can affect the entire body as well as the central nervous system. The best thing is that you can fire it to any part of the body and it will do its job. According to several reports, the Taser C2 was found to be 95% effective during real encounters. . Unlike other Taser models, the Taser C2 will operate for a period of 30 seconds once activated. This special feature is primarily so that once deployed, an individual can drop the Taser C2 and have a 30 second window in which to escape to safety. To enhance this feature even more, Taser International warranties that if your Taser C2 is deployed in an attack, send them a copy of the police report describing the event, and Taser International will replace your Taser C2 free of charge.

The Taser M-18

The Taser M-18 is an advanced version of this non-lethal technology. It also uses compressed nitrogen to fire two small electrodes up to a maximum distance of 15 feet. The electrodes are connected with the help of high-voltage insulated wires to the Taser M-18. When the electrodes come into contact with a subject then electrical pulses are transmitted through the wires into the body of the subject and can penetrate 2 inches of clothing.

The use of the Taser M-18 over the years has become increasingly popular with civilians as well as law enforcement agencies due to its high degree of effectiveness and above all there is no bloodshed. It can be used in different situations and can save several lives. Most importantly, the number of deaths in custody, robbing, and theft has gone down due to the use of the Taser M-18. Using guns have never been as effective.

The Taser M-18 has a 100% rating for effectiveness. The Taser M-18 is not only considered as a better option to the automatic weapons being used by law enforcement agents but is also better than the traditional stun guns. One of the quantum leaps in the Taser M-18 technology is the effective stopping power due to the use of a new and advanced Electro-Muscular Disruption (EMD) technology. The advanced Taser M-18 can shoot 2 darts or electrodes using a 15 feet wire that ensures transfer of 50,000 volts to the central nervous system of the subject. What the Taser M-18 really provides is an incredible power to take down almost any opponent.

As a result of its effective use, Taser devices or guns are being looked at as the next generation weapon. Soon it might replace the conventional colt, Walther, CZ 75B or other automatic handguns and weapons. The Taser is a weapon that can be used for self-defense by both civilians and law enforcement agencies. It is easy to use, more effective than conventional weapons, works at close range and removes any threat to life. Now that’s a weapon of the future!

Shopping for a Piano: Acoustic vs. Digital

Autor: cothse

The most serious piano teachers will adamantly point their students in the direction of an acoustic piano. For serious piano studying, I agree with this completely for reasons I will discuss shortly. But for many reasons, a genuine handcrafted instrument may not be the best choice for you. With the affordability, portability, and the many features that come with digital pianos, you may wish to head the other way. Summarily, the question of acoustic versus digital boils down to a matter of authenticity versus everything else.

Mostly, the drawbacks of an acoustic piano are matters of practicality, such as price. For what you could get a new, decent quality digital piano with, you’ll be dealing with a rather meager acoustic. This can encompass a number of problems. For instance, aside from any tuning it might need, the overall sound quality of a cheap acoustic piano can be quite poor. This may not just be an issue of bad strings, but can result from an infinite number of possible factors arising from any of the complex mechanics of the piano being in disrepair. Other common problems of old pianos are broken keys and sticky keys, which is when the keys fail to spring up the way they should. There may also be faults with the framework that can range from nuisances to impending hazards. The list of the possible troubles of a bad acoustic continues indefinitely, and it is likely that the piano will need a decent amount of initial maintenance, in addition to periodic maintenance, which is likely to pull a few additional large bills out of your wallet right way.

Also, because of its bulk and weight, an acoustic may be a very difficult accommodation for people living in tight or elevated spaces, such as dorm rooms and certain city apartments. Some buildings may even prohibit pianos, particularly on floors above the ground level, because the weight and bulk of pianos make them quite cumbersome and possibly hazardous to either the tenants or the buildings themselves. This raises the issue of portability as well. Do you gig? Do you relocate frequently? Toting a 500 pound upright piano isn’t possible for most people; moving one across the room is a challenge for most people. If your music should ideally be ready to go, your hulking wooden companion is not going to be sympathetic.

Acoustic pianos also lack the many features present in digital pianos nowadays that may be valuable tools to you. For example, volume control may be necessary in dormitory, or close living, situations. Newer digitals also come with a suite of onboard functions, including on-the-fly recording, voice customization, electronic metronome, and even music mixing features, which you won’t have. You will also lack the benefit of porting your music to your PC; a simple MIDI connector would feed your performance directly into your computer’s audio card without any ambient noise or loss of sound quality, which will probably beat any recording made with an acoustic piano and consumer grade recording hardware available at a neighborhood electronics store.

In light what you’re giving up in bells and whistles, surely you will be at a degree of inconvenience being committed to an acoustic piano. Still, despite the great deal of effort digital piano makers have put into their product, none have been able to truly reproduce the sound and feel of a good acoustic piano. First, lets talk about the piano sound. To most people, casual or occasional listeners of piano music, the sounds made with an acoustic piano and a digital piano are quite identical and equally satisfactory musically. But listen closely, because there is an important difference.

A digital piano outputs high quality recordings of the sounds that were made by a real piano at one time. During the process of making a digital piano, each key of a real concert grand piano is struck a number of times at varying velocities and recorded with sophisticated equipment. This array of high quality recordings will serve as the digital voice, and will give the digital piano a rather broad range of tonality and an overall likeness of an acoustic piano in varying music dynamics. But once the notes have been recorded and finally integrated with the digital piano’s voicing mechanism, they are never going to be changed. Even though the aesthetic quality of the sound may be state of the art, it is the way the sounds should behave but cannot because they are fixed recordings that is the fundamental problem of digital pianos.

An acoustic piano uses a complex array of hammers, strings, a soundboard, and other moving parts that function in collaboration. This means that when any note is played, it is not played with entire independence, but is highly affected by the current state of the surrounding components of the piano. For example, playing a chord on a digital piano will simply result in three notes being played, as they were recorded individually, at the same time, whereas with an acoustic piano, the three notes will interact with each other through the soundboard and become a stew of vibrations, producing a different, more complex, and ultimately richer sound. Lacking this quality of pliability, what comes out of digital speakers will typically be quite simplistic and boring, and will be most unsatisfactory to aficionados of the true piano tone.

An acoustic piano is also an analog instrument, which means is has virtually infinite range. For example, there is no limit to the loudness or softness a note may be played on an acoustic piano. With digital pianos, there is a point at which a minimum or maximum will be achieved. This means there will be occasions when you will not be able to play a note as softly or as loudly as you wish. In order words, true pppp or ffff are probably beyond the scope of digital pianos without you resorting to adjusting the volume dial while you’re performing. Even if you were to do that, the tonal quality of the notes would remain static from that point on, when it would further continue to dull or brighten on an acoustic piano.

Another problem of digital devices is the matter of intervals. In photography, for example, pixels are the intervals. With a traditional film camera, the amount of detail you are able to capture is theoretically unlimited because film is a single and continuous malleable body. The “film” of a digital camera is not single or continuous but is a multitude of pixels, each of which is only able to record a solid block of color. The amount of detail a digital camera is able to capture will depend on how small the pixels are and how tightly they’re packed together. If the pixels, or intervals, are small enough and packed closely enough, the amalgam of the blocks of color they record will appear to be smooth curves and gradients to the human eye.

There is a similar issue of intervals with digital pianos, which is mainly the issue of touch sensitivity. Digital pianos have a finite number of intervals when it comes to key pressure. The more intervals there are and the closer they are to each other, the more realistically the piano will respond to your dynamics. High end digital pianos will have quite a lot of them. But digital pianos within the means of average shoppers may not have sufficient sensitivity. This means that while the vast difference between piano and forte may be noticeable, the most intricate variances of touch pressure may be disregarded. This will be quite a nuisance to pianists seeking a highly responsive instrument, particularly when it comes to meticulous classical music.

It also manifests in pedaling. Piano pedals are ranged. Between simple on and off, or up and down, there are degrees. “Half-pedaling” and “quarter-pedaling” are crude terms describing the manner of pedaling in which the pedal is only pressed partially down in order to create an intermediate effect. For instance, rather than completely depressing the pedal so that the full brilliance of a note is sustained, you may wish to depress it only half way to dampen about half of the note and let only the remainder of it sustain for a subtler, suppressed quality. Certainly a scrupulous pianist will wish to employ the complete range of pedaling available to him, which may not be represented entirely accurately in a digital piano.

Aside from sound, as mentioned previously, key touch is also an important issue. Digital piano makers these days have gone to great lengths to reproduce the feel of acoustic pianos. For the most part, they’ve done a good job. They’ve even gone as far as implementing graded hammer action, which is in line with the hammers of acoustic pianos gradually becoming lighter from left to right. As a matter of fact, if you could take a look at the inner workings of a digital piano, you would be quite surprised and impressed with the complexity of the hammer mechanics. However, as long as digital pianos look the way they do, being the shape and size they are, there is going to be a limit as to how authentically the key feel can be made.

The hammers in a digital piano are simply extensions of the pianist’s fingers. When the pianist presses a key down, it will raise the opposing side of the lever, which touches an electronic pad inside the piano that serves as the string. The hammers in an acoustic piano do not behave this way. Instead of being extensions of the pianist’s fingers, they are rather like projectiles that are sprung at the strings high above them. Imagine the carnival game where you hit the pad on the ground with a mallet, which flings a projectile up the meter towards the bell at the very top. The finger is the mallet, the visible piano key is the pad, the hammer inside the piano is the projectile, and the string is the bell. First of all, this means if you press a key all the way down but not with the minimum amount of force needed, the projectile hammer will never leave its seating and the string will actually never be struck. On the part of the pianist, this launch-pad-like action will need a slightly different technique than the seesaw-like action of digital piano hammers, predominantly in difficult works. Secondly, it will feel noticeably different under the fingers.

The only way this can truly be reproduced in a digital piano is by the use of bona-fide acoustic hammers. And there’s nothing wrong with doing that. But the problem is there isn’t enough room for them inside the compact size of most of the digital pianos today. That’s why as long as they look the way they do, the action of digital pianos will not feel completely akin to that of acoustic pianos. Certain higher end models do integrate the acoustic hammer action simply to recreate the key feel. Even higher end models, which are called “silent pianos,” integrate strings as well and are bona-fide acoustic pianos with the added ability to remove the strings from the action and toggle on digital mode in order to provide volume control! But these tend to be even more expensive than acoustic pianos.

In terms of what the average piano shopper will be able to afford, the difference in the overall performance between a digital and acoustic piano will be stark. To restate what I said at the beginning of the article, it really boils down to the authenticity versus everything else. And the authenticity is usually going to cost you more to get. What you should think about is how important it is to you that the piano truly resembles an acoustic. Are you a classical piano student looking at a long road of perfection and possibly a career as a concert performer? Then a digital piano is probably not what you want to be practicing on, even as a temporary substitution, because there is a good chance it will hurt your technique. It is possible to get financing on an acoustic piano, so I would recommend going that route, using your budget of cash as a down payment. If this is not necessarily what you have in mind for your musical venture, then perhaps a digital piano is all you require. Depending on your needs, it may not be a mere reduction of an acoustic, but a substantial upgrade with all the features you’re going to get. Typically, a digital piano will be more than enough to satisfy one’s musical appetite.

Defending Your Rights under the Employment Laws

by: Rainier Policarpio

With the changing times and increasing accounts of job-related disputes comes the need for various laws that focus on resolving these particular issues. Along with this, the employment force must be able to fully understand their rights under the pre-existing law provisions and utilize them to protect their own interests.

Specifically in Los Angeles, the workers are guaranteed of legal remedies and protection from abusive employers who fail to manage them lawfully. Here are some of the following rights and privileges that are somehow helpful for the employees who may have experienced employment discrimination or abuse:

Right against Discrimination

As stated under the California Government Code and Federal Code Title VII, it is unlawful to discriminate and/or harass workers based on their:

• Age

• Race, color or national origin

• Gender or pregnancy

• Religious affiliation

• Marital status

• Disability

In addition, as provided by the Labor Code, employers are not allowed to retaliate against their employees who:

• Uphold their rights for reasonable wages

• Filed their complaints regarding the unhealthy and/or hazardous work environment

• Asserted their rights for worker’s compensation

• Testify before the court, revealing the illegal activities in the company

• Involved themselves in other lawful activities not related to work such as political activity and skills enhancement trainings

Any employee who will experience these violations may file their case with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission the California Division of Labor Standards Enforcement within six months prior to date when the discriminative act occurred.

Family and Medical Leave Act

Every employee may have the right to utilize a three-month leave without the fear of losing his or her job for the following reasons:

• Take care for a newly born baby or adopted child

• Provide attention for a family member who has a serious ailment or health condition

• Seek treatment for his or her own sickness

Organizing a Labor Union

Employers do not have to interfere in any manner regarding the formation of a labor union and any of its lawful activities. Unless these labor actions are being done in an orderly and under the limits of the law, the company owners cannot file any case against union members.

Any instance of employer interference or harassment related to this issue may be reported to the National Labor Relations Board within a period of 180 days.

Workplace Safety

To protect their workers from possible hazards in their workplace, the employers must provide them with adequate training seminars and programs on how to protect themselves on the job. If necessary, the companies must supply all the protective equipment and gears.

Employers disregarding this right of the workers may be brought to the Division of Occupational Safety and Health.

Right to Representation

All citizens, not just workers, who have been aggrieved, discriminated and/or harmed, have their basic right to legal represented. Therefore, in filing their respective claims and complaints, the affected employees may seek the assistance of Los Angeles employment law defenders who have the proper knowledge and skills in preserving their rights.

This is certainly beneficial, especially for those workers who do lack the any background about the laws that safeguard their welfare. To add, labor attorneys can help their clients in establishing a strong case against their illicit employers.

Organic Wines – An Alternative Way Of Producing Wine

Autor: maloy@indusnet.co.in

The term “organic” is cropping up more and more when it comes to food and drink production in the 21st Century. It demands a cleaner and a non-chemically grown product. But how does this affect wine production and can there be such a thing as a wine company who can produce truly organic wine and stay in business?

As the organic movement grows, there is pressure from environmentalists and increasingly choosy customers to know exactly what goes into their food and drink before they purchase it. Organic wines have previously been accused of being dull, and most of the world’s “best” wines have long been produced in a far from organic way.

The place to start when talking about organic wine is to decide exactly what the term “organic” means to you.

Organic wine is made without the use of synthetic fertilisers, herbicides, pesticides or fungicides. It is also vacant of artificial preservatives or colourings, which may be added to non-organic varieties.

But why go organic? It is thought that many of our foodstuffs have been tainted with chemical build up through the use of non-natural pesticides or fertilisers on the plants they grow and that your body could be affected by consuming them. The build-up of these chemicals, it is claimed by environmentalists, have the potential to cause long-term health problems or could contribute to developing allergies. There is also the question of chemicals from treated crops going into the ground and ending up in drinking water, an issue that has already led to many changes in general crop production and water treatment.

Most commercial crops are grown with the use of fertilisers and other chemicals who kill things that can harm the crop. Continued use of these chemicals can weaken the soil and start to upset the eco-system in the ground. They also lead to some pests developing a tolerance to them which encourages the further development and use of stronger chemicals and further builds up chemicals in the product itself.

The alternative to all this is to grow plants organically. Organic farming is a more time consuming method of production and needs time to replenish the natural eco-system too. Setting up an organic farm means taking time to tackle weeds by hand,
encouraging natural predators of pests who frequent the vineyard, and where this does not work, finding other ways of tackling the many organisms that harm crops. Fertilizer will be compost or animal manure, and a system of planting flowers and herbs to create biological diversity has to be included in an organic vineyard.

Vineyards face an additional problem – mildew and black rot. These are diseases that can ruin a crop and in some cases destroy a whole vineyard. This makes growing organic vines very difficult in regions where there is a lot of humidity. Therefore organic production is most common in hot dry regions where fungal infections are less likely, and where extra labour can more easily be afforded.

To be able to sell as an organic vineyard, the organisation has to be recognised by one of the official certification bodies across the world.

Lawyer Representation in a Motorcycle Accident Action

by: Rainier Policarpio

Dangers of Motorcycle Riding

Motorcycle riding is indeed one of the most popular alternative means of travel. As well, a growing number of enthusiasts ride their bikes to relax and forget their worries for at least a short period.

However, many of these motorcycle lovers are not fully aware of the possible dangers riding a motorcycle may bring to them. According to statistics, thousands of individuals are being involved in motorcycle accidents every year. This is despite the continuous efforts of the government and other concerned groups to warn the people and convince them to follow safety measures and avoid tragic accidents.

Considering the characteristics of a motorcycle, one may easily predict what will happen after its collision with a much larger and heavier vehicle like a car or even a truck. Unlike other vehicles, motorcycles do not have metal cases to protect its passengers.

Further, safety belts are not applicable in motorcycles. This explains why those who were victims of these accidents have sustained serious injuries or even died.

Lawyer Representation in a Legal Action

Victims of motorcycle accidents certainly have their rights to be recover damages against the liable individuals. Yet, because of the intricate process of litigation and the many complicated law statutes associated with it, they certainly need the assistance of a motorcycle accident lawyer.

Depending on the circumstances of the crash, a competent legal counsel will try to address all the problems that the victims may encounter. They will do their best to make the pursuance of a lawsuit stress-free for their clients. This is by taking charge in all of the important tasks in a case litigation.

There are three duties that a legal advocate has to closely work with his client initially:

• Planning responses for the case discovery
• Preparation of plaintiff’s deposition
• Settlement options

After these matters are all dealt with and discussed accordingly, the victims may choose to either engage in an out of court settlement or just continue the battle in the courtroom. Yet, whatever the decision may be, they must be sure that they already understand the pros and cons of their choice.

Settlements vs. Litigation

Similar to what other personal injury claimants do, majority of motorcycle accident victims result in entering out of court settlement procedures. This is for the following reasons:

• A litigation procedure may take a lot of time and money before coming up with a court resolution.

• Settlements are more restricted to public knowledge

• In a settlement procedure, the amount of damages is decided upon by the parties involved and not by a judge

Finding the Credible Representation

Since the role of a lawyer in a motorcycle accident claim is very vital, the victims must strictly examine his qualifications before hiring his services. It will also be wise to look on his records of winnings and ascertain if he specialize in handling such cases.

Another thing to ask a motorcycle accident lawyer is his manner of charging fees. Generally, legal professionals imparting their services on a “contingency basis” are better that those who charge per appearance. This method of payment means that a client will just have to pay his lawyer if the case has already won and he already receive his money. No payment then will be made if the case will lose.

We provide free expert evaluation for personal injury cases involving motorcycles. To avail of this service, log on to our motorcycle accident lawyers website at http://askaccidentlawyers.com/practice-areas/motorcycle+accident+lawyers.html and give us information about your case.

Keeping the Kitchen Safe for Kids, Five Quick Tips

Autor: magwmr

Cooking with your child can be a fun learning experience. Children that help their parents in the kitchen are often more inclined to try new foods, and an interest in cooking is very beneficial in the teen years. Teaching the basics to your child at a young age will help instill a life long enjoyment of cooking, as well as the ability to cook for themselves and others in the future. Before you begin cooking with your child, it is important to set some rules in place to make sure that your child remains safe, and the atmosphere stays fun.

Supervise Your Child Carefully. Most young children love to help in the kitchen. Sharing meal preparation duties can be a fun way to spend quality time with your child. While cooking with you child can and should be fun, it is important to remember that cooking is not a game. While you should allow your child to help, it is important to supervise them carefully. It only takes a moment for you child to pull a hot pot over or fall off a chair she has decided to use as a stool. In addition to supervising your child carefully, you should also supervise the food. When a child is helping it is easy to get distracted. Do not leave the room with your child leaving the food unattended. Cooking fires are the number one cause of home fires in the United States.

Maintain Order in the Kitchen. When there is a child in the kitchen, it easy for things to get chaotic. It is important to maintain order. If your child is upset, stop cooking, turn the fires off and leave the room to deal with the situation. Do not hold your child while you cook. Make sure that there is a working fire extinguisher in the kitchen. Do not talk on the phone or answer the door when you and your child are cooking. When you finish using a knife, wipe it off and put it away, do not leave it in the sink or on the counter.

Keep Hot Items Out of Reach. The kitchen is full of hot items, whether they are on the stove, in the microwave or sitting on the counter. Because children are smaller than we are, a splash from a hot pan that would barely register with us, getting our shirt damp, could seriously burn a child's face or arms. When you are cooking, use the back burners if at all possible. Turn the pan handles toward the back of the stove. Do not let your child remove dishes from the microwave by himself, or remove the covering from a pot or bowl which is likely to release steam. As the meal is prepared do not leave the hot pans on the counter or sitting on a towel or tablecloth that could inadvertently cause your child to pull the food over on himself.

Keep Loose Items Contained. Loose items are a hazard, no matter what they are. If your child has long hair, contain it in an elastic band before you begin the meal preparation. If you are using small appliances, only bring out the ones that you plan to use for the meal. After you are finished, unplug them, wrap the cord around the base and put them away.

Choose Age Appropriate Tasks. It is important to choose age appropriate tasks for your child. While each child is different, and you know your child best, there are some things that an older child can do safely that a younger child should not attempt. While some chores are better suited for older children for safety sake, others are to prevent unnecessary mess.

Even very young children can bring items from the refrigerator, wash fruits and vegetables and mix dry ingredients. As a child gets older, around the time they start kindergarten, they can learn to crack eggs, help frost cupcakes and brownies and begin to learn how to measure ingredients. Once a child reaches middle school, they are ready to chop vegetables and use blenders and other small appliances.

A Brief Overview of Gourmet Coffee

Autor: coffeewmr@gmail.com

The word Gourmet is used to refer to the fancier grade, cut, or quality of many of the foods and beverages we consume. Gourmet foods and drinks have long been associated as the regular fare for the rich and famous who can afford the higher pricing that often accompanies many of these finer food and beverage versions. Coffee is a beverage that has been available in cheap, regular and gourmet versions for a long time and the consumption rate of coffee among people from around the world continues to increase every year. Gourmet coffee may have once only been served in the finest dining establishments and found being served mostly in the homes of the upper class, but gourmet coffee is widely available and affordable to a variety of people and is found in a variety of settings today.

Coffee is made from coffee beans which are found within the berries that develop and ripen on a number of smaller evergreen bush plant species known as the Coffea plant. After ripening, coffee berries are harvested, and then undergo a processing which also includes drying them. It is the coffee beans that remain after the processing and drying of the coffee berries. The beans are then roasted to various degrees which cause them to change physically and in the tastes they produce. Finally, the coffee beans are grinded down into a fine consistency that is commonly known as coffee grounds, and packaged and shipped to destinations around the world where consumers can buy and brew coffee grounds to make coffee in commercial, hospitality, institutional, and residential settings. Some people prefer to grind their own coffee beans before brewing them for coffee. Packaged coffee beans that have not been ground can be purchased in stores and ground using the grinding mills that are made available in most of the stores selling them, but also with grinding machines in the home.

The two most commercially grown species of the coffea plant that produce the coffee beans used to make the coffee that the world's population consumes, are Robusta and Arabica. Gourmet coffee is made from the top tier coffee beans from the arabica coffea plant. These top tier arabica coffea plants are typically grown at very high altitudes (above 3000ft) with ideal soil and climate conditions. The coffee beans produced have fuller flavors, are more aromatic, and have less caffeine in them than other varieties of coffee beans such as Robustas. The coffee beans of arabica coffea plants grown at lower altitudes are still noted among consumers as having richer flavors than the flavors produced by Robusta coffee beans, but it is only the top tier arabica coffee beans that are considered to be Gourmet, and thereby from which gourmet coffee is derived.

Coffee bean grounds and coffee beans that have not been grinded down need to be stored in air-tight containers and kept cool in order to protect them from losing their flavor. The containers that coffee is typically sold in are not the most ideal for storing coffee for a long period of time. When you arrive home after purchasing coffee grounds at the store, consider transferring the fresh coffee grounds to appropriate storage containers to extend its shelf life and full flavor.

Coffee can be brewed in many ways such as boiling, pressuring, and steeping. Most of us brew our coffee using automatic coffee brewing machines and percolators which use gravity to pull hot water through coffee grounds where the hot water mixed with the oils and essences of the coffee grounds empties into a liquid holding container below. Filters are used to keep coffee granules from being emptied into the carafe or liquid holding container from which the brewed coffee can then be served from because most people do not want to drink the coffee granules. Coffee granules can be very bitter once the flavor able oils and essences have been removed through the brewing process. Plants and flowers love coffee grounds though for anybody who is looking for a greener alternative of what to do with coffee grounds after brewing instead of just throwing them in the trash.

Of course, Gourmet coffee beans are only the beginning to creating a truly gourmet coffee experience for many gourmet coffee drinkers. Some people are quite content with drinking their gourmet coffee black, without adding anything like milk, creamer, sugar or other sweeteners or flavorings, to their coffee. While many others want to enhance their gourmet coffee and drinking experience with tasty additions like milk that is whipped into a froth, sweeteners, and mixing in other flavors like chocolate, vanilla, cinnamon, and mint, to name just a few. Big name coffee chains sell a wide variety of gourmet coffee with different tasty additions and flavors to appeal to gourmet coffee lovers. However, brewing gourmet coffee at home is usually much cheaper, and you can add what you want to your coffee to satisfy your refined, gourmet tastes.

This article is made available for educational purposes only, to give you general information and a general understanding of the law, not to provide specific legal advice. This should not be used as a substitute for competent legal advice from a licensed professional attorney in your state.

An injured employee covered by workers' compensation is entitled to medical treatment at the employer's expense. If the employee misses any work due to the injury or is permanently injured the employee is likely due one or more of three types of cash benefits. These cash benefits are:

Total Temporary Disability (TTD)
Total Partial Disability (TPD)
Permanent Partial Disability (PPD)

How are Workers' Compensation cash benefits calculated?

Your Workers' Compensation benefits are first based on a term called your "average weekly wage." That wage figure is then applied to the type of disability benefits you are entitled to. You're average weekly wage is computed by averaging your wages from the 13 weeks prior to the injury. This figure includes salary, hourly pay, tips, meal allowances, lodging allowances, clothing allowances, and even year-end bonuses.

Depending on how much you worked/made in the 13 weeks before the injury, this calculation could end up benefiting you or unfairly setting your wage lower than you think it should be. If you did not work for the 13 weeks preceding the injury (maybe you were hurt on your first day) your wage is usually set by the wage of a similar employee for the 13 weeks prior to your injury.

Temporary Total Disability (TTD) Benefits

You are entitled to what is known as TTD benefits if your work injury results in your total disability from work. TTD benefits are two-thirds of your of your average weekly wage, but no more than $500 per week for injuries occurring on or after July 1, 2007. For injuries occurring prior to July 1, 2007, please use our TTD benefits calculator (link). Unless your injury is determined to be "catastrophic," you are only entitled to TTD benefits for a maximum period of 400 weeks from the date of injury.

"Catastrophic" injuries are not subject to the 400 week cap and include such injuries as paralysis, brain injury, severe neurological disorders, total blindness, and amputations of an arm, hand, foot or leg. An attorney can advise you if your injury may be "catastrophic" under Georgia law.

You do not necessarily have to be 100% physically disabled to be disabled from work. It does mean that you have a 100% impairment of earning capacity. If you are able to return to light duty work and your employer cannot or will not accept you back at work, you may still be entitled to TTD benefits.

Temporary Partial Disability (TPD) Benefits

You are entitled to TPD benefits when your earning capacity is impaired but you are not totally disabled from work. This means if you are injured and are unable to earn a weekly wage equal to the wage you were earning, you are entitled to two-thirds the difference between your wage before and after the accident, but no more than $334 per week. Your employer is responsible for paying this benefit whether you are earning a lower wage with the same or a different employer. You are eligible for these benefits for up to 350 weeks after you are injured.

Permanent Partial Disability (PPD) Benefits

Unlike TTD and TPD, this benefit relates entirely to your level of physical disability, not your earning capacity. An employee may be entitled to this benefit even if they never missed a day of work or lost any wages due to an injury. PPD is based entirely on a formula that takes into account your percentage of impairment (as determined by your doctor, not your employer), the part of the body impaired, and your compensation rate. However, PPD benefits will not begin until after an employee stops receiving weekly TTD or TPD payments. See our Compensation calculators (link) to learn more about how PPD benefits are computed.

Penalties for late payments

If you are not paid your TTD, TPD, or PPD benefits on-time, your employer may owe you a 15% penalty in addition to the amounts they already owe you. This is true if your employer incorrectly denied you your benefits for a period of time, or if they are already paying you your weekly benefits and miss a payment or mail it to you late.

Waiting period for receiving benefits

An injured employee is NOT entitled to any cash benefits for the first 7 days they are hurt unless the injury period lasts for at least 21 consecutive days. In other words, if you are out of work due to injury, your employer does not need to pay you any cash benefits until the 8th day of disability. If you are still disabled after 21 days, your employer must then go back and compensate you for the first week of your disability.

Packing House Operations for Fruits and Vegetables

Autor: Rajiv kumar

Packing houses serve as a collection centre for fruits and vegetables prior to distribution and marketing. The houses can be simple packing sheds with a limited equipment and minimal operations or a large complex that is well equipped and with facilities for specialized operations. The types of operation carried out vary with different commodities and market requirements. Produce that are destined for export or supermarket outlets are often subjected to elaborate operations compared to local markets. Some of the operations are as follows:

Sorting and Trimming

Freshly harvested fruits and vegetables are sorted for uniformity in size, shape and varietal characteristics. Damaged, discoloured and decayed parts are removed to make the produce more attractive and prevent infection from the diseased parts.

Washing

Washing is necessary to remove extraneous materials from the field such as dirts, chemicals and latex. This is usually done before storage or immediate retailing of the produce. In order to r educe the incident of decay, chlorine is often added to the wash water.

Drying

Drying is done to remove excessive moisture from the surface of the produce. Excessive drying should be avoided to prevent wilting, shrinking and water loss.

Waxing

Waxing is done on certain types of fruits and vegetables such as ginger, tomato, citrus and melons to reduce water loss, thereby reducing shriveling. In addition to that, the application of edible wax will enhance the appearance of the produce.

Curing

Injured and bruised surfaces of root, rhizome and tuberous crops are allowed to heal by holding them at ambient temperatures for a few days. Curing initiates the formation of periderm layers at wound areas, thereby reducing moisture loss and microbial infection. Sufficiently cured vegetables can be stored for a longer period.

Chemical Treatments

Fungicides and growth regulators are commonly used to reduce decay and undesirable growth respectively. The use of chemicals should be closely supervised and within the recommended levels for human consumption.

Grading

Fresh fruits and vegetables are classified into groups according to a set of recognized criteria of quality and size, with each bearing an accepted name and size grouping.

Packaging

Produce are packed in suitable containers to provide protection against mechanical and biological damages during transportation and subsequent handling operations. Packaging materials should be of accepted standards with regard to strength, ruggedness and resistance to pressure. Packages should have adequate ventilation so that produce will not warm up as a result of heat arising from respiration. Excessive ventilation, however, may result in wilting.

Pre-cooling

Pre-cooling is an essential step prior to storage at low temperatures. It is the rapid removal of field heat from the produce to reduce the rate of respiration, microbial activity and refrigeration load. Pre-cooling can be done with chilled water, ice or cool air (forced air cooling), whereby the produce is cooled to the half cooling temperature.

Storage

Storage at low temperatures has been an effective mean of extending the shelf-life of fresh fruits and vegetables. It also enables orderly marketing and distribution of produce in time of peak production. Temperature requirements for different produce may vary depending on variety, location, stage of maturity and other factors. It is important to note that cool storage is a tool used to maintain quality but not to improve it.

Transportation

Proper handling of the produce during transportation is essential to reduce losses to a minimum and to maintain their quality from the farm to the packing house and from packing house to market. The used of refrigerated trucks to transport highly perishable and high value produce will maintain their quality over an extended duration. In non ventilated vans, temperature of the fruits or vegetables rises quickly, increasing respiration and decay.

10 Fireplace Smoking Problems and Solutions

by: Rick Pocock

There is nothing worse than coming in after a hard day and when you finally get a decent fire going, all you get is smoke coming back into the room. It burns the eyes and lungs, and you wind up having to open windows and doors to let the cold air in to air the room out. That smell gets into all of the fabrics in the house as well as in your clothes, and it seems to take forever to get rid of it.

Many of the common smoking problems deal with the fact that a fire needs to be supplied with a large amount of make up air as one of its three primary elements, as well as needing to have an adequate opening through the chimney to the outside in order to exhaust out the smoke and gases so that they don’t come back into the room. Below is a list of the top ten possible reasons and their solutions as to why you’re having that smoking problem.

1) Dirty or Obstructed Chimney– Have the chimney inspected and swept by a Certified Chimney Sweep so that the chimney can be checked for any obstructions such as a bird’s nest or tree branches, or your kid’s missing volley ball. Also, a dirty chimney cap will prevent smoke from freely exiting the chimney.

2) Closed Damper– Before starting a fire, always check to make sure that the damper is completely open. If you’re not sure, shine a flashlight up the chimney to see if the metal damper plate is open or closed.

3) Fuel– Cut firewood must be aged a minimum of one year. It should be kept dry and protected from the rain. If the log is larger around than 6" in diameter, it should be split so that it burns efficiently. Also, some types of prefabricated “paper wrapped” logs can be prone to smoking.

4) Fire Grate Placement– The fire grate is where you place your wood in the firebox and should be placed as far back in the firebox as possible, preferably right against the backwall in order to create a good draw. Sometimes it’s necessary to raise the grate with bricks to help. This gets more air under the grate for better circulation and it also raises the height of the fire.

5) Chimney Not Built To Proper Dimensions-Many times the fireplace opening is too large or too tall, especially in relation to the chimney flue size. This can give smoke a choice of going up the chimney or coming into the room. The solution could be adding a metal smoke guard to the top of the fireplace opening, since it shrinks the size of the opening. Also, many two-sided fireplaces have inherent smoking problems due to their sensitivity to air drafts in the house. In this case you might think about installing glass doors. One more thing, if the chimney does not have adequate height, you may need to extend the height of the chimney to improve the draw.

6) Cold Weather– If the weather outside the house is either colder and/or raining, the air inside the chimney flue will be cold and heavy and block the smoke from venting out. In this case, it helps to ‘prime’ the chimney by rolling up a newspaper and lighting it, then hold the lit end close to the open damper inside the firebox for a minute or two to warm up the heavy air in the flue. Then you can light the fire and ideally should have a good draw.

7) The House Is Near a Canyon or Hillside– If the house is next to a canyon, hillside or slope, it can have smoking problems due to wind currents and downdrafts. The air is pushed down the chimney into the room. Many times a specially designed chimney wind cap will resolve this problem since the top part of it turns like a weather vane and the cap’s backside creates a barrier in the way of the wind.

8) Central Heating System– If the heater is on, you will lose the draw from the chimney which will cause a smoking problem. This is because the central air furnace is so strong that even if the air intake vent for the central heating system is not in the same room as the fireplace, it will suck the outside air down the chimney and will cause the fireplace to smoke when the fire is going. Do not run the heater when the fireplace is in use!

9) Air Pressure Difference– Because houses are built much tighter than they used to be, the air pressure inside the house can be different than outside the house and this will not allow for a proper draw of air through the flue as well as the fire not receiving adequate make up air. This will also happen if a house is retrofitted with new tighter windows and doors. To minimize the smoking problem, crack open a window or door (preferably at the same level as the fireplace) in the room.

10) Tall Trees and Buildings– A tall tree or added-on second story (yours or your neighbor’s) close to the chimney may change the wind currents and cause down drafts to go down through the chimney and not only cause a smoking problem but possibly an odor problem as well. Keep those trees trimmed! With the 2nd story problem, the solution will likely be to raise the chimney height, but in some cases the wind cap might help instead.

These at least hit the highlights of what could be the problem when dealing with that annoying smoking problem. There are other possible reasons for this problem, so if following the corrective actions presented here don’t take care of it, the best advice I could give would be to contact a CSIA Certified Chimney Sweep in your area and put him to work figuring it out. Good Luck!

Skincare Tips That'll Make You Glow

Autor: jeswitham

If you want to look great, then having great skin is a necessity. Diet and exercise play an important role when it comes to taking steps to improve the health of your skin beyond simply using good skin care products. Not only will it make you feel good about yourself, but the following steps also have many ancillary benefits when it comes to your health and happiness.

Dry Brush Exfoliation: This should be done in the morning prior to going in the shower. This gets ride of excess dead skin, thus allowing your skin to detox. This will also help with blood circulation and decreases any puffiness. While this is a great way to improve your skin condition it also provides a calming affect through the gentle pressure, which stimulates the nervous system. With the help of a bristle brush you can be on your way to a dry brush exfoliation once a day in no time.

Hydration: This causes your digestion to slow down and in turn leaves your body filled with impurities for longer than it should. You should try to drink 4 litres of water per day, at least. In order to make sure you meet this target have a bottle of water with you at all times throughout the day and you will find it's easy to get through this amount without thinking about it. Don't like drinking plain water? Consider adding flavoring to your water.

Fibre: Fibre will improve your diet and your skin at the same time. Most people know that this will make their skin glow, but few know how to realistically eat their RDA of fibre every day. Here's some tips to make sure you manage:

1. Brown is better than white. Pasta and bread both have up to ten times as much fibre in them when you opt for brown rather than white. This is an easy dietary change for most people, so at least give it a try and see if you can make the shift.
2. Eat apples, and lots of them! Apples are sweet and tasty. More importantly their skins are jam packed with fibre. Try to eat a couple of apples a day as a contribution towards your 5 fruit and vegetables.

Get exercise: If you fail to get exercise then you'll notice your muscle tone turning to flab. This has been said to lead to cellulite, acne and bloating. None of which will do your complexion any favours! That's why you have to consider incorporating an exercise plan into your lifestyle. This shouldn't be a chore, and is an essential part of a healthy lifestyle.

Sugar: Sugar may be sweet, but it doesn't do your skin any favours. This is said to be one of the major causes of ageing in the skin. You can easily tackle this problem through ensuring your not having any more sugar in your diet than you have to. This means that a sprinkle of sugar on your cereal shouldn't be an option. When it comes to tea and coffee, it's easy to gradually reduce whether or not you take sugar. If you currently take 2 spoonfuls, come down to zero half a spoonful at a time.

by: Steve Strong

Unpleasant incidents can happen to anyone, anytime! But, the true wisdom lies in knowing how to tackle them so as to minimize the loss of life as well as property. A driveway alarm is an ideal product for those, who put the security of kids and house above anything else in their life. A driveway alarms has a sensor that monitors the areas around your house, especially the entrances and exits. The driveway alarm would alert you in case someone intrudes from the backyard of the house. It alerts you if someone approaches your property or your driveway, and thus saves your family from facing an untoward incident.

There is a huge variety of driveway alarms available in the market to suit your specific requirements. The recent models of driveway alarms are completely wireless, and are equipped with an advanced range of sensors to enable you detect any suspicious motion. In fact, it is an ideal product to manage a big house. For example, the wireless version of driveway alarm can monitor upto 2 miles of area around your house. In addition, you get a Walkie Talkie that can be used for effective supervision of the house or business property.

Moreover, it’s very simple to install a driveway alarm and avail its wide range of benefits. Other than ensuring your safety, a driveway alarm can be used to notify when your guests reach your driveway. It can effectively dissuade unwanted people by activating its siren, alarms or lights. You can even install it outside your house and be informed when someone reaches your premises. You also have an option to go for wired magnetic probes, which disrupt the movement of vehicles by creating a magnetic field on your driveway.

You should get a right type of driveway alarm installed by an expert. This would help you ensure complete safety and peace of mind. Therefore, it is important to first take a closer look of your specific needs, and decide which driveway alarm to go for. While a hose type of driveway alarm alerts you about the movement of cars and heavy vehicles, a magnetic probe will only be identifying metallic vehicles. Then, you can choose a wireless beam as well, which can identify people as well as metallic vehicles. So, first of all you should decide the type of driveway alarm and match it with your requirements.

Next, you should pay attention to identify the construction of your home. Remember, the choice of a driveway alarm would be greatly influenced if you have a mobile home, or the one with steel or aluminum siding. So, observe and discuss it with the driveway alarm expert and take the decision accordingly. If your house has any transformers close by, their presence may interfere with the transmission of the signal. For example, if there is an electric fence around your house, you can use the DWA 5 model in this case.

Therefore, you should first know which type of driveway alarm is suitable for you. There are certain features that you can keep in mind while choosing a driveway alarm model:

• Signal Detection range up to 2 miles
• Wired or wireless installation

• Doorbell chimes
• Separate tones for separate areas of detection
• Cameras to monitor risk-prone areas
• With or Without a Fence

A driveway alarm provides you with complete security at very nominal price. Sometimes, the decision to install a driveway could be the decision to choose happy or tragic life.
